Get Your Taxes Done – For Free!

If you have a simple tax return you may just want to take that shoebox full of receipts to the City of Bloomington. Well, not literally, but the city is teaming up with AARP to provide free tax prep for folks with simple returns that make less than $30,000 ($53,000 for families).

Homeland Security came out a few days ago saying there is no credible terrorist threat against any shopping mall in the U.S., including the Mall of America, so don’t be deterred from shopping ‘til you drop this weekend.

Bloomington is home to three new houses in this year’s Spring Parade of Homes. The event starts on February 28 and wraps up March 29th. You can visit the homes on Thursdays through Sundays from noon to 6:00 p.m.

It seems as if everyone in Bloomington is talking about the frigid temperatures, to the exclusion of pretty much everything else. From car trunks frozen in place to broken water mains, the cold temperatures are wreaking havoc across the state.

Kids back to school earlier this year

The Bloomington Board of Education has changed the back-to-school date by moving it up to September 1 -- the Tuesday before Labor Day. In the past, kids didn’t return from summer break until the day after Labor Day.
