As in many of our Twin Cities suburbs, Bloomington’s real estate market is definitely turning the corner and transforming into a seller’s market.

Although more Bloomington homeowners have decided to sell this year over last (a 17.1 increase in new listings), more homes have sold, which is clear evidence that buyer interest is still quite strong in the Bloomington home market.

Bloomington’s median sales price increased almost 6 percent over this time last year and now sits at $211,750.

What these numbers mean for folks hoping to purchase a home in Bloomington is that you should act quickly. We don’t foresee home prices going down anytime in the near future and interest rates may be rising, so this is the time to act.

  • The rates advertised may not apply to the loan you want.
  • The true Annual Percentage Rate (APR) may be higher – a lot higher.
  • Bait & Switch is still alive and well in the mortgage industry.

In fact, it’s better to shop by APR, because this figure reflects the annual percentage rate with points and fees included.

Keep it Local, at First

The best place to start when shopping for a mortgage lender is where you do your banking. Find out what kind of rates and products they offer, and use this to compare against other lenders. Contacting a mortgage broker may be a

Here's a little history of one of our favorite holidays.

Like many holidays, it took the work of one tireless promoter to bring Mother’s Day to life. Her name was Anna Jarvis and the idea struck her back in the late 1860s. A devoted daughter, Jarvis was committed to finding a way to pay tribute to not only her own mother (who had 11 children), but all mothers, worldwide.

The why of it all

The idea of setting aside one day a year to honour the women of the world who give birth to and raised us was actually her mother’s dream and it instilled in young Anna a resolve she couldn’t shake. Jarvis frequently recalled the day her mother, a Sunday school teacher and peace activist, gave a lesson on “Mothers in the Bible,” and concluded the day’s
