Bloomington School Spotlight: Indian Mounds Elementary

September’s Bloomington School of the Month, Indian Mounds Elementary School, serves 386 students in grades K through 5. With 27 full-time teachers, there is one teacher for every 14 students.

Special Programs

Indian Mounds offers a number of extracurricular activities to students, including clubs and after school programs. Indian Mounds also offers a robust gifted and talented program. Other programs and activities include:

Indian Mounds Ratings and Test Scores

Parents rave about the staff at Indian Mounds, saying they appreciate how everyone works together for the betterment of the students’ educational experience. School ratings site SchoolDigger.com awards Indian Mounds one out of five stars and GreatSchools.org gives it four out of 10.

While most fifth graders in the state who took the math portion of the 2015 Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments Series III (MCA III) exams struggled, Indian Mounds students lagged both the state’s and the district’s average. They fared better on the reading portion, with 60.9 percent meeting or exceeding state standards, 66.8 percent of the district’s students and 66.7 percent of the state’s did the same.
