We’ve rounded up some of the Bloomington news we think you should know about.
Will Bloomington get a new Community Center?
Sure, they’ve been talking about it for more than 15 years but city officials have finally begun to take the idea seriously. Not that there’s anything wrong with Creekside Community Center. It’s just that it isn’t flexible enough for expanded programs.
The city conducted a survey to determine the demographics of current and future users of the community center and find that primarily retirees and families with older kids use it the most. So, what are these folks looking for in a community center?
That’s to be determined by a task force that will be populated with members from the community, some staff members from the City of Bloomington and two youth representatives. They’re kicking around the idea of a gym, a large multi-purpose room with a kitchen, meeting rooms, a fitness center, walking track and more.
Until they get a clear picture of what’s needed in a new center it’s a bit challenging to come up with a cost for a new center, but the project may run to more than $40 million.

Calling all Norwegians: Wanna be a Star?
What better state for a casting call for Americans of Norwegian ancestry to be a part of the cast of next season’s “The Great Norway Adventure” reality show than Minnesota?
Tryouts are being held this Sunday, November 8 at the Executive Center at Mall of America. If you are at least 18 years of age and have even a smidgin’ of Norwegian, show up between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Oh, they want Norwegian-Americans that have never visited their ancestral homeland as well.
