The Hyland Lake Park Reserve & Play Area is one of the most popular outdoor attractions in the Bloomington area. This park provides more than just an open space for outdoor fun. The play area is quite amazing and the features of the park will keep you busy for hours.

The park is home to the Richardson Nature Center and in the winter time it becomes the Hyland Ski & Snowboard Area. It’s part of a larger system called the Hyland-Bush-Anderson Lakes Park Reserve, which covers over 2,500 acres of space.


The park provides plenty of activities to enjoy including:

  • Snowboarding

You can enjoy the dog trails, picnic areas and the nature education center, as well.

The Hyland Play Area is open from 9am to sunset from the beginning of April until the end of October, depending on the weather. This play area has won awards for the creativity and provides something great for kids to enjoy.

The hexagonal climbers and slides are as long as 50 feet and there's a section specifically designed for younger children and those with disabilities. Kids can enjoy hanging, sliding, swinging and climbing as much as they want.

Richardson Nature Center

Discover all types of different parts of nature at the Richardson Nature Center. You can enjoy clay mosaics, reptiles, raptors, amphibians, plants and so much more. The building provides an amphitheater, outdoor fire ring and many other rooms you can rent for events, as well. Enjoy bird watching, pond exploration, Nordic walking and more when you visit the nature enter.
