Oak Grove Middle School

Oak Grove Middle School LogoOak Grove Middle School is one of three middle schools in Bloomington. It serves 823 students in grades 6 through 8. There is one teacher for every 15 students.

The school’s mission statement claims that “the staff at Oak Grove Middle School is dedicated to the personal development of each student by providing an environment that is safe, supportive and challenging. Each student will have the opportunity to discover his/her unique interests.”

Parents appreciate what they call the school’s “highly professional teachers.”

Test Scores

While test scores give an indication of how students are performing in a particular school, they don’t tell the whole story. The scores can’t tell you whether there are programs to fit your child’s needs, such as art and music and whether students are picking up valuable critical thinking skills.

In 2014, Oak Grove Middle ranked better than 61.3 percent of middle schools in Minnesota. It also ranked 2nd among three ranked middle schools in the Bloomington Public School District.

Fifty-one percent of Oak Grove 8th grade students meet the state standards for math on the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments Series II (MCA-II) exams. The state average is 59.7. On the reading portion, 58.7 percent score proficient or better while the state average is 55.7. Finally, 43.9 percent of the 8th graders meet state standards for science. The state average is 45 percent.

SchoolDigger.com awards Oak Grove three out of five stars and GreatSchools.org gives it seven out of 10.
