Washburn Elementary School in Bloomington serves 446 students in grades K through 5. On the math portion of the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment-II (MCA-II) exams, 57 percent of Washburn’s 4th graders scored proficient or better. The state average is 77 percent. In reading, 62 percent of Washburn’s 4th graders scored proficient or better. The state average is 75 percent.
Washburn Elementary was named a Minnesota Celebration School. This award is reserved for Minnesota’s Title I schools—those that serve racially diverse student populations with high levels of poverty.
Washburn was also awarded the MESPA School of Excellence Award. MESPA stands for Minnesota Elementary School Principals’ Association and the award is given to “schools whose principal, staff, students, and community -- working as a team -- demonstrate the desire to strengthen education by successfully undertaking the Minnesota School of Excellence program.”
